Style Me Swanky Lo & Sons Giveaway!

I have been on the HUNT for an all purpose bag that is stylish, good quality, and multi-purpose with plenty of functional pockets that I can use for a diaper bag now and for personal use once little E is older.  I follow Megan over at Style Me Swanky (her blog is amazing! I'm addicted) and she's doing a giveaway for this beautiful Lo & Sons O.G. bag (OMG) and it's just to DIE for.  I would SO love to win it!! (Um the black with gold details anyone?  Or maybe the bright blue!)  It would be such the perfect fit for our life style since we are always on the go, both here in town and traveling to visit family going here there and everywhere!

And here is E :-)

Asleep in her crib - big steps!!!

Get That Glow

Yall -- get ready for a long one :-)

Particularly in recent years, I've been plagued by inconsistencies with my skin.  The older I have gotten, the lazier I've become about my diet and exercise, I've made multiple moves to different parts of the country, and spent my fair share of time in the sun just like any other southern girl.  To say that my skin has suffered is an understatement.  I've notice wrinkles deepening, skin sagging, bags forming, redness surfacing, vessels breaking, blemishes burgeoning faster than I can say salicylic acid -- you name it, I've experienced it.  To top it all off, I was fighting all these battles before pregnancy, so my recent haywire hormones certainly haven't helped.  I've tried every product and facial and in the end I'm convinced they all made it worse.  Actually - I know they did because I had the worst breakout of my life the week of my wedding and they day off was just awful.  So for the last 6 months I've made it my mission to get to the bottom of what my skin needs.  Unfortunately, I'm sure things will all change again after the baby arrives, but I am taking solace in the fact that for the first time in years (yes, literally YEARS!) my skin is clear.  No redness, the broken vessels around my nose are diminishing, my puffy eyes are evening out, my skin tone is nowhere near as red as it was, and my skin is actually soft.  I might just cry tears of joy if it didn't mean it would make my eyes all red and puffy ;-)

So here's what I do:

1.  I am religious about washing my face every morning and every night, no exceptions.  I don't sleep with makeup on, I am never too tired to take care of my skin.  That alone has made a world of difference.
2. Mornings: First I dampen my face with warm water, and smooth over a little of this:

the stuff dreams are made of.
I've been trying to go the more natural route since Baby T came in the picture, and I love this line.  You'll see more of it in just a minute, keep your britches on!

I use my Clarisonic to work in my cleanser.  This alone has made such a huge impact on the appearance and quality of my skin!  Keep an eye out for Sephora sales to get a discount.  I just have the first addition and it works like a dream, I don't really see the need to spend the extra money for an additional speed, but do what works for you!

I rinse with warm water, pat dry with a towel, and then it's product time:

When I remember, I use a toner.  I have a bottle of Boots no. 7 skin brightening toner from Target (bought it ages ago) that I don't think they carry any longer.  SOOOO I'll be on the hunt for a new one, but it's really not essential to my routine in all honesty.
I use this moisturizer because it is the only one I have ever tried that hasn't made me break out.  At night I use the Yes to Tomatoes cleanser instead of the carrots, and so far this routine has worked pretty well for me, so why change it?!

I've mentioned this before (like, in my last post...) and it is worth mentioning again.  I follow my regular moisturizer with this one just around my eyes, keeping my distance from my water line. I pat it in with my ring finger and then smooth it out just a bit, working against the direction of any fine lines/wrinkles (crevices...trenches...whatever you like to call them...)  It has made such a huge difference in making me look more awake!  I apply it morning and night.

To combat my redness, I use:

I eat grapefruit like my life depends on it.  I just love the stuff.  I cut off the rind, and just go to town, I eat the membranes and everything (they're good for your heart and arteries).  This serum is only $19.99 at Target and let me tell you IT WORKS!  It leaves my face feeling smooth and silky and with no redness at all, which can often be an issue when using the Yes to Tomatoes line.  Get this stuff!!!  Any old acne scars have healed almost entirely, my skin tone is even
OK! That's it!  Every now and again at the end I'll spritz a little bit of this:

Mystic
Hydrating Treatment
Oil-free, anytime moisturizer for all skin types
It's good for oily/acne prone skin and can be used at any time that a little moisture boost is needed!

Finally, once a week (every Friday...) I use this mask:

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask
I've mentioned this too, but it's just so great :-)

Happy Skin Soothing!

Meal Plan Monday!

Y'all are in for a little treat this week, because - WHAT! My husband picked out our meal plan this week with little to no supervision...  AND made our grocery list (ok...mostly...that kind of got thrown together in the car on the way to the store...)

We never made our Philly Cheese Sloppy Joes last week, so those happened last night.

Monday - Jambalaya
Tuesday - Chicken and Zucchini Wraps (a little twist on this recipe)
Wednesday - Leftovers (this is our busy day...)
Thursday - Tacos
Friday - Our Pizza Night!

Have a lovely Monday!

I came across some new products this week that I had been wanting to try so I thought I would share:

Clear Improvement™ Active Charcoal Mask To Clear Pores

Eye Doctor™ Moisture Care For Skin Around Eyes

I got these at Sephora, and yay!  Sale!

...and my new favorite guilty pleasure :-)  It packs nearly twice the punch for calcium content as a regular glass of milk!

I know I said I would be back with a drink post, and I haven't forgotten! Does the chocolate almond milk count? I have tons of stuff to blog about in this coming week...at some point!

Meal Plan Monday...a bit late

Sorry!  I'm already slacking and I just got back!  I haven't been sleeping well (restless legs anyone?)  and yesterday I was useless...I almost fell asleep during my hair appointment which I NEVER do!  It also means that I didn't do my workout.  At all.  Well I made up for it this morning with an arms workout from www.fitsugar.com (Workout Wednesdays?!)

This workout is awesome!  I supplemented it with a few more moves afterward for my triceps - some posterior tricep pulses, tricep dips, and some vertical extensions overhead for my shoulders and upper back as well as my chest.

I have a whole bunch of workouts pinned on Pinterest on my workout board.  I am one of those people who pins a ton of stuff, but I am CONSTANTLY going back through and looking at my pins, especially this board.  I get bored easily so I love always having something new.  My favorite websites are Tone It Up and Fit Sugar (especially since they have other fun celebrity news etc...!)

Here's what we are eating this week!

Monday - Crawfish Etouffee
Tuesday - Philly Cheese Sloppy Joes
Wednesday - Spaghetti & Meatballs (we froze some of the meatballs we made last week!)
Thursday - Grilled Ham & Cheese & Tomato Soup (S is on his own, I have dinner plans with a friend!)
Friday - Pizza  (We usually get a 12" from New Yorker Deli on Friday nights...we may switch it up this week since we have a doc appointment!

One of our favorite spots in Pensacola!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far!  I am so ready to finally wake up a little bit.  Most mornings it takes me about 30 minutes just to get my eyes open after I wake up and then I am in a dense fog for the rest of the day! I'm actually looking forward to my blood test this week to check my iron levels!

Take care yall, I'll be back tomorrow (hopefully) with a fun drink recipe :-)

Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookies

Sweet Sundays?  I'm going with it :-)

S wanted something asian-ish for dinner tonight so we had baked sweet and sour chicken with (brown) fried rice.  Mostly healthy except for the sauce on the chicken!

My sweet tooth kicked in after dinner so I decided to make some cookies, and man am I glad I did! I tried a Pinterest recipe for coconut chocolate chip cookies, but I modified it based on what I had in my pantry.  I only had about 6 oz. of mini chocolate chips (which was MORE than plenty by the way!) and I added about 3/4 C of old fashioned oats.  I would say I used about 1 1/2 C of shredded coconut too.

As usual I am ahead of myself here, because I forgot to tell you why I am so dang excited about these cookies.  There's no butter!  They're made with coconut oil!  I hear that some coconut oil has no scent or flavor.  Mine does, but I love coconut so I'm ok with it.  I find coconut is pretty good in just about any sweets recipe, but it would be nice to use some that doesn't impart its flavor for you crazies who don't like coconut ;-)  I also portioned them by about a heaping tablespoon and they took about 12 minutes to cook :-)

My yummy cookies!

Let me know if you try these, they are addicting!!

Well hello there, 2013!

It's been a while -- 2012 threw quite a few curve balls at me!

I had a crazy year of grad school

S moved here from Orlando

my mom was in town for 6 weeks

We got married!!
My dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer...

and we decided to have a baby :-)

With all of that going on I need some kind of release, so I've decided to give the blog another try :-)

Since S and I found out we are having a baby, we've been making a lot of very concerted efforts to organize our life a bit more.  That started with making weekly meal plans and shopping lists.  We have so much peace of mind every week and it really has made our lives so much easier!

I know it's Wednesday, but this is our meal plan for this week :-)

Monday - Spaghetti & Meatballs (S makes the BEST meatballs!)
Tuesday - Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Wednesday - Crock Pot Black Bean Soup (This is a Tone It Up Recipe...find it here!)
Thursday - Greek Avocado Quinoa Salad
Friday - Leftovers

We also plan snacks, lunches, and breakfasts into our shopping list.  Most days I eat lots of fresh fruit with Bare Naked Vanilla granola on top, sometimes with greek yogurt and flax if I'm feeling really ambitious. Otherwise I make a shakeology protein smoothie with milk, a banana, peanut butter, and ice :-)  Both give me so much energy and keep me going so long as I remember to drink more than what I think is plenty of water.  This has been my biggest challenge all through pregnancy!  Especially on rainy days like today when the barometric pressure drops, I get the worst headaches!  One of these days I'll figure out a fancy and user friendly way to post our grocery shopping list!  We use the app AnyList and it is SOO wonderful!! I love it because I can share it with S and we can both update it in real time.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Hump Day! XO
